Slated to launch on PlayStation 5 on January 28, 2027, the sequel retains the franchise's core Butterfly Effect formula while transporting the horror to entirely new terrain. A New Setting: From Snowy Lodges to Akishima Island Instead of returning to Blackwood Mountain, Until Dawn 2 shifts the atmosphere from isolated alpine snow drifts to sun-drenched coastal ruins. The story follows 'Dead True,' an ambitious crew of ghost-hunting video creators who routinely stage supernatural encounters to earn online fame and views. After an eerie investigation at Blackwood Sanatorium takes a dark turn, the group encounters a mysterious survivor named Yoona. This leads the crew to Akishima Island—a remote, sun-kissed location abandoned for decades that conceals dangerous ancient secrets. New Cast, Returning Faces, and Creative Collaborations The sequel introduces an ensemble of new playable characters, featuring talent such as Dacre Montgomery. However, the narrative will retain a direct tie to the original game's psychological roots: Peter Stormare returns as Dr. Hill, once again appearing to dissect the player's psychological state between chapters. While the original Until Dawn was developed by Supermassive Games, internal Sony studio Firesprite is leading development this time, collaborating with narrative team AdHoc Studio to craft the branching storylines and dialogue systems. Choice-Driven Survival and the Butterfly Effect Gameplay remains focused on exploration, rapid decision-making, relationship dynamics, and quick-time events where any character can live or die.
