French indie studio Nextale Games is bringing Paul Beorn's fantasy universe to life in Calame, an isometric tactical RPG featuring dynamic battlefield alterations. Developer Nextale Games is preparing to launch Calame, a single-player narrative tactical RPG inspired by French author Paul Beorn's acclaimed fantasy duology. Set in the fractured realm of Westalia, the title challenges players to lead a rebellion against the tyrannical King of Light, who wields a transcendent power capable of turning written words into absolute reality. A Fractured Rebellion At the core of the story lies an uneasy alliance between two rival factions within the uprising: Kenmare, who fights for the freedom and survival of the common folk, and the Panthers, who seek to reclaim the throne. Players must command both factions, arbitrating internal tensions and determining which philosophy will ultimately guide the fate of the realm. This narrative divergence directly feeds into tactical gameplay and team dynamics. Siding with Kenmare emphasizes resilience, support, and tactical defenses, whereas backing the Panthers rewards aggressive mobility, critical strikes, and high offensive pressure. Tactical Grid Battles and the 'Correction' System Calame combines traditional isometric grid combat with unique environmental mechanics. Players command a roster of up to 15 distinct heroes, managing positioning, unit facing, and class synergies across hand-crafted battlefields. The game sets itself apart through its signature 'Correction' mechanic. Fuelled by a resource known as Legend, commanders can actively alter battlefield topography and interactive scenery in real time, transforming hazards and terrain into tactical weapons to rescue allies or trap enemy forces. Key Features and Systems Over 15 playable heroes equipped with unique weapon archetypes, exclusive skills, and Overdrive abilities. A dynamic Chronicle system where moral and strategic decisions permanently alter squad traits and faction relationships. A dedicated Camp hub for squad management, social interactions, and progression between battles. Deep turn-based encounters demanding careful positioning and strategic terrain manipulation. Platforms and Release Window Calame is scheduled to debut on PC via Steam in Fall 2026, with console editions slated to follow. A playable demo featuring both major factions and the Camp management hub is currently available on PC. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UC8aZUR_E4k
