God of War Laufey now has a release date. Sony Santa Monica creative head Cory Barlog announced the PS5 exclusive will launch February 16, 2027, during a San Diego Comic-Con panel The reveal landed in the middle of the night for European fans given the time difference. PlayStation followed up with a short teaser clip on social media showing a brief golden logo. The game is available to wishlist now on the PlayStation Store, though pre-orders and pricing haven't been announced. Despite Sony's plans to phase out physical disc production the following year, Santa Monica Studio has confirmed Laufey will still ship on a proper disc rather than a code-in-box. It's the first entry in the franchise not centered on Kratos. Instead, players follow Faye, the wife Kratos lost before the events of 2018's God of War, as she journeys through an afterlife for the gods — one that may bring her face to face with deities her late husband once killed. PlayStation gave a first extended look at the game's opening and aerial combat earlier this summer, making the seven-month wait until launch feel tighter than expected. According to the game's director, Barlog has been developing Faye's story for a decade, and her voice actor has had to keep the role under wraps for just as long. Laufey also lands in what's shaping up to be a brutally crowded month. February 2027 already includes Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis (February 12), Persona 4 Revival (February 18), and Xbox's Fable reboot (February 23) — all jockeying for attention in the wake of GTA 6's expected blockbuster launch.
