Setting sail as Edward Kenway once again has been a blast for fans, but many have been wondering: when do we get to start the adventure all over again with our late-game gear? Fortunately, game director Richard Knight has some excellent news: New Game Plus is actively in production. While Ubisoft isn’t quite ready to commit to a specific release date, Knight confirmed in a recent interview with YouTuber JorRaptor that the feature is a high priority for future updates. Leveraging Tech from Shadows Implementing New Game Plus is somewhat easier this time around because Assassin’s Creed Shadows has already laid the groundwork. Shared Tech: Associate game director Simon Lemay-Comtois did the heavy lifting for Shadows, giving the Black Flag Resynced team a solid blueprint to work from. Unique Obstacles: Knight pointed out that the games aren’t identical. For example, the pirate remake introduces unique gameplay challenges, such as how the game handles progression and whether players can skip directly to the hideout. What About Rewards? If Knight gets his way, players can expect additional rewards for completing New Game Plus, similar to the system seen in Shadows. However, design discussions are still in the early stages. All sorts of things." — Richard Knight, Game Director For now, the team is heavily focused on ironed-out details, with Knight noting that the sheer joy of "stomping early-game foes with late-game power" remains one of the most exciting aspects of the mode.
